EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES FOR NEW FIELD ETC!! We became interested in helping to get new field facilities at the school a while back. After a bit of research into the Razor Management developments at Monarch , Central and Lakeshore we raised the subject with JCI staff. They informed us that Ryerson University actually pitched the school and the TDSB a year or two ago, offering to finance the build and operation of a Championship Field Facility complete with FIFA grade turf, seating, club house, locker rooms and a seasonal dome! Discussions with the Athletics department at Ryerson, JCI and TDSB informed that a big stumbling block was the pressing need to finance some repairs to the garage underneath the current (turf and mud) field and running track. These have to occur if any type of new field is to be built by anyone.
Officials at the TDSB told us recently that they are now prepared to do the necessary repairs to its parking lot/garage. A call for tenders is expected soon.
TDSB is also considering replacing the existing field themselves with either a grass field or and artificial turf facility as part of the garage contract. Price and future revenue opps will be key factors. As this process unfolds, the Board intends to formulate a new policy in this area. We hope to have input to the policy development process.
How this could impact a possible relationship with Ryerson (or other possible partners (think
CTC (Jumpstart
etc.),
MLSE (Launchpad)and even
Razor) remains to be seen.
Regardless of the policy review, we have urged the TDSB to provide for a future dome as it prepares the specs for the Garage++ contract. Discussions with the school rendered a couple of innovative ideas for any field re-development, as the field is not regulation size for either soccer of football. We'd like to ensure some different options are considered and will keep communicating with all parties.
