The Golf and Rally Event Hit it Right on the Screws...It was ANOTHER great Event.
The event this year was held September 15th. Golf was at "Our Home of Golf", the very great and world famous Don Valley Golf Club. Many of us grew up there on the manicured lawns beside the always interesting Don River. (The kinds of things we used to see floating down the river were, rather fascinating to say the least. But that's another story. So too are memories of flying clubs, naps under the stars and morning sun and the old elevator up the 19th). We want to offer our sincerest thanks to the managemnt at Don Valley for accomodating our group. Their professional and friendly treatment of all participants will not be forgotten.
All golfers and many non golfers continued their donations to the Sports 4 Jarvis program. This year, promotion of the tourney and rally saw
over $1,000 raised, and that without a soliciting campaign!! Thanks to all who support us.
This year, 20 golfers vied for the title of Champion Golfers of The JCI World Title. The winning group was an interesting blend of grizzled veterans and a newcomer who flew in from New Zealnd for the event (and maybe some other family things too, but...). The champs are pictured below. From left to right, Bob Morgan (Sammy Davis Jr.? or Roger Federer?), Dave Barrett (presumed fan of the All-Blacks), Grace Dasberg (Best (Female) Golfer each and every year), Wally Muraki (Lucky consort of the lovely Grace and gymnast extraordinaire), Richard Orviss (veteran, Emcee and he of 240 yard drives (still)). The venerable JCI Invitaional Trophy (aka The Ken Ohtake Trophy) which dates to 1963, is being presented by part -time Emcee and world leading expert on all things retail, Michael Richard Pearce.

THE RATIONALE FOR SPORTS 4 JARVIS SPECIAL EVENTS
"We hold Events Beacuse we want to gather because we are friends" (B. Bulldog)
"Friendship is one of the most sustaining forces any of us will ever have." (J. Timson)
"Over the years, in between managing marriage, divorce, illness, work, children, time and more, my friends have lifted my spirits on countless occasions. They've taken me seriously at opportune times, needled me at others and simply provided a solid social foundation upon which to build a life" (anon)
"Friendship" said Pooh, "is a rather comforting sort of thing"
2021
Held at the Horseshoe Valley Resort for the 10th consecutive Year, the weather was cold, the camaraderie as soothing as warm Maple Syrup, the golfing was hot and some of Canada's greatest Friends, Athletes and Nicest People battled it out for the Venerable (58 year old!) JCI Invitational Trophy. This year's winners are pictured below.
It is notewothy that Dave Hetherington (who I'm sure regrets having attended a not-JCI High School) was the first winner of the Trophy in 1963. He was a sporting colleague and friend of several others back in the public school years! So too was Paul Fisher. It was good to have them both with us. Their attendence speaks to the fact that this golf Tournament is for all friends of Friends of Jarvis. So to all...start preparing to get some more friends involved next year.
As a fundraiser for the S4J programs, it was pretty good too. Over $2,000 was raised in a combination of donations made prior to the event - including very generous gifts by some who were not going to attend - and from "Entry Fee" Donations. Non attending Donors included Dennis Figueira, Chris Fennell and Jim Naumovich. Others have indicated their intention to donate this year and so we can only hope they keep their word..
Sports4 Jarvis has done some good for the school and the students. If you want to know more about what S4J does and why you should help..read through the site and/or just ask us. (Or forget all that and donate right now by scrolling down to the yellow Donate button and click away!
2020....the COVID Year!!
The planned event for June was postponed for obvious reasons. We rescheduled for September 18th in the hope that the world would be in a position to make a full scale tournament sensible. Alas...'twasn't to be. The tourney was held but only one Foursome enetered. They won the Best Team Title and were awarded the Historic JCI Invitational Trophy.
Champion Golfers of the year...Peter Joel, Chuck Wakefield, Bob Morgan and Brian Caldwell.
The First Picture of the Winners below features Jacinta, a longstanding hostess at the Crazy Horse, and a favourite of our crowd. Speaking of her reminds me to emphasize how wonderfully fun and professioanl all the Crazy Horse staff are and have been over many years now. A shout out particularly to Shayna and Jessie who - both sadly but positively - have moved on to other pursuits.
The second pic is Jacinta taking the first and third.
The Desparado featured along with the Champs in the third pic is of course, the very special Edward George Hilder. Ed again rode his bike to join us. He is one tough Jarvisite.
PS Someone tell Caldwell to get a haircut or grow it faster to Willie-like pony (or pig) tail length.
PPS Be sure to ask Joel about his contact lenses.
